It also allows you to share in the planning with your family, and plan a service that will fulfill everyone's needs.
Ease Decision Making - There are many decisions required in planning a funeral. From the location and type of service to the choice of burial or cremation, your family won't have to wonder what you wanted or make decisions at a time that they are grieving.
Protecting your funds - All funds that are used to prepay a funeral are placed in an irrevocable trust or an insurance policy. This protects your funds from nursing homes and other long-term care facilities and saves them for your family to use at the time of the funeral.
A little bit about pre-payment . . .
There are many reasons why funding your funeral in advance makes sense. There is also substantial flexibility in the options you have to when prepaying, including:
Payment in full or flexible payments - We have choices from payment in full, to 3, 5, 7, and 10 year payment plans. Even with the payment plans, you can still have the total cost of the funeral guaranteed. Payments can be made monthly, quarterly, or annually, and can be by coupon book or direct withdrawal from a bank account.
Protection of funds - All funds paid towards the funeral will be placed in an insurance policy or trust account, both of which are protected in the unlikely case the insurance company or bank should cease operation. Should the funeral home close, the funds can be fully transferred to a funeral home of your choice with no penalty.
Funds are still in your name - The funds paid towards your funeral will remain in your name until the time of death. This gives you the flexibility transfer the funds to any funeral home should you relocate to a different area. There is no penalty to transferring funds.
You have the choice, Insurance or Trust - We are proud to offer both insurance policies through Forethought Life Insurance Company and trusts through New England Funeral Trust. Both offer the cost-protection guarantee, however each has it's own advantage in regard to taxable interest and the funding method, should you choose a single payment or multiple payments. Both options will be fully explained to you and you will be able to make the choice that is right for you.
