Connie Holmberg

OXFORD – Constance M. (George) Holmberg, 82, of Main Street, died peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2018, after a long battle with dementia. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul M. Holmberg of Oxford; her son, Craig P. Holmberg and his wife Cathleen of Oxford; her sister, Olimbia Filipski of Dorchester; two grandchildren, Nicole Holmberg of Framingham and Aaron Holmberg of Oxford; and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her daughter, Marcia A. Holmberg who died in 2015; and her sister Millie Buksar. She was born in Southbridge, daughter of the late Nicholas and Katherine (Pano) George, and lived in Southbridge before moving to Oxford in 1960. She graduated from Mary Wells High School in Southbridge in 1955.

Mrs. Holmberg owned and operated The Villager in Oxford with her husband for 47 years, retiring in 2009. Previously, she worked at Chaffee Brothers in Oxford, American Optical in Southbridge, and Brotherton Jewelers in Oxford. She was an avid jazz music fan with her husband Paul, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a kind person who cared for her mother, in-laws, sister, and her daughter Marcia for many years.

The family would like to thank Vibra and the Meadows of Leicester, for the exceptional care given to her over the past month. They would also like to thank her best friend Georgia Bedard for her care and love during her illness, and Nurse Practitioner Karen Fleming at Reliant in Auburn.

Calling hours are Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 1-4 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the conclusion of calling hours. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452, or to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 126 Morris St., Southbridge, MA 01550.
