OXFORD – A. Claire (Ryan) Provencal, 94, of Millbury Boulevard, died Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Christopher House in Worcester. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Leo P. Provencal Jr. who died in 2000. She is survived by three daughters, Christine “Tina” Roberts of Bishopville, SC, Virginia “Ginny” Lilley of Oxford, and Debra Ceminski of Dudley; two granddaughters, Kim Lilley of Quinebaug, CT, and Megan Provencal of Charlton; and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard F. Ryan and Edward E. Ryan, Jr.; and a sister, Jeanne Bedard.
She was born in Oxford, daughter of the late Edward E. and Claire Anita (Turcotte) Ryan Sr., and lived in Worcester before moving to Oxford in 1951. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester.
Mrs. Provencal was a crossing guard for Oxford Public Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Friends of the Oxford Public Library and a volunteer and member of the Oxford Senior Center. She enjoyed bowling, knitting, reading, and was an avid Red Sox fan.
The family would like to thank nurses and aides in the Putnam Unit at Christopher House in Worcester, for the exceptional care given to Claire during her time there.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be private at a later date at St. Roch’s Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Roch’s Church, 334 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.
Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
