AUBURN – Adam J. Keyes, 44, of Auburn, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of profound kindness, leadership, and an unwavering devotion to his family. Described by many as "one of the absolute best," Adam was a man who gave of himself freely, touching countless lives with his laughter, positivity, and grounded spirit.
Adam was the heartbeat of his family. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Ashley, and a proud and loving father to his son, Camden. He embraced his role as a bonus dad to his step-daughter, Sophia, serving as a constant source of joy and support.
He was predeceased by his parents, Susan E. Marsh (Lareau) and Gary W. Keyes. He is survived by his wife and children, as well as his brothers, Aaron Keyes and Michael Cloutier, and a community of extended family and friends who will miss his presence deeply.
Adam’s journey was defined by a passion for learning and a commitment to others. A graduate of David Prouty High School, he excelled as a student-athlete and student-leader, serving as the President for the Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (MASC).
He attended Fitchburg State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He served in the Student Government Association (SGA), becoming the student representative to the Board of Trustees and was a student-athlete, playing football for the Falcons.
He went on to earn a Master of Public Administration from the University of New Haven. At the time of his passing, Adam was pursuing his Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies at Marshall University, further exemplifying his lifelong dedication to academic growth.
Adam spent over 20 years in higher education focusing on the people behind the processes. He was a leader who believed in building collaborative teams and translating institutional goals into real-world support for the students he served.
Most recently, Adam served as the Director of Educational Affairs at UMass Chan Medical School, acting as a senior strategic partner and a steady hand in guiding admissions, financial aid, and student services. Prior to this, he brought his compassionate leadership to Dean College as Vice President for Student Success & Campus Life, where he served on the executive cabinet and worked to expand student access and support.
Adam’s legacy of service also left a lasting mark on Clark University, where he held key roles as Director of Strategic Initiatives and Senior Associate Dean of Students, often serving as a trusted advisor and community leader during times of transition. His professional journey was rooted in a lifelong commitment to helping others, with impactful roles at: MIT, Boston University, Endicott College, Albertus Magnus College and the University of New Haven.
Adam’s creativity wasn't limited to the office; he was a natural host who thrived on feeding and entertaining his friends and family. A former semi-professional football player, his passion for athletics ran deep. Whether he was playing, watching, or perfecting his swing as an avid golfer, he found great joy in the spirit of competition and camaraderie. His kindness was his defining trait; he was the type of person who gave of himself without hesitation, always looking for ways to lift others up.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to support the future of Adam’s children. In honor of his legacy and his profound dedication to his family, a fundraiser has been established to ease the financial burden and create an education savings fund for Sophia and Camden.
