OXFORD – Alice K. Walker, of Oxford, Massachusetts, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on November 2, 2025. Mrs. Walker was predeceased by her husband James H. Walker, her son James H. Walker Junior, sister Agnes Woolsey, and brother John Kulungian.

Alice leaves three sons, David (Marie) and sons Christopher (Cristin) and sons Kevin James and Dylan, Jonathan (Jessica) and son Benjamin, daughters Elizabeth, Samantha and Catherine. Brian (Joanne Winsor) and son Jason, Michael (Soundouss) and daughter Zahra and her brother Harold Kulungian. Along with many nieces and nephews.

Alice was elected as the Town of Oxford’s first women Selectman serving from 1980-1994.

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on September 21, 1928, the eldest daughter of David and Zevert Kulungian. Alice with her brothers and sister were raised by Mary Richardson of Milbury Road, Oxford, Mass, after her mother became ill. She met her future husband, James Walker, as a member of the choir at the First Congregational Church.

While raising their four sons Alice held positions in local businesses, colleges, churches, and local government. She spent her life giving and working for the betterment of others. Alice gained college level experience at State Mutual, worked as the Parish Secretary for St. Matthews Episcopal Church, and an elementary school secretary in the Oxford School System. She also worked for the South Worcester Neighborhood Improvement Corporation and Worcester Poly Tech Career Development Center for thirteen years.

Alice served on the Public Welfare Committee and as an Election Officer. For nine years, she was a Library Trustee, served on the 275th Town Anniversary Committee, worked to improve bus service as the Worcester Regional Transit Authority Chairman, and served on the Mass Regional Planning Commission for nine years.

She coordinated the pilot program for the Hazardous Waste Collection in 1984, served nine years on the Finance Committee, the Zoning By-Law Study, School System Study, Local Growth Policy, School Committee, Friends of the Free Public Library and Chairman of Founders Day.

Alice was the President of the North Oxford PTA, served on the Worcester County 4-H Advisory Council, and organized a 4-H Community Service Club for teens.

The Walkers cared for fourteen foster children, worked to improve the foster care system and participated in the Fresh Air Program allowing inner city children to spend time in a rural community. They also hosted international students and welcomed a German refugee family into their home.

Upon retirement the Walkers started Walker’s Greenery featuring “choose and cut” Christmas trees, daylilies, and perennials.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 355 Main Street, Oxford, followed by a luncheon downstairs in the fellowship hall from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at North Cemetery in Oxford.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The James H. Walker, Jr. Memorial Fund in care of the First Congregational Church of Oxford and would be greatly appreciated. Donations may be mailed to the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 0585, 355 Main Street, Oxford, MA 01540-1731. The memorial fund provides scholarships to help young members of the church family with Christian Education and Christian Summer Programs.
