Alma C. Robert

April 14, 1933 — August 11, 2023

Oxford

OXFORD – On August 11, 2023, Alma C. (Jourdenais) Robert, loving wife of 68 years to Arthur J. Robert, mom to five daughters, one son, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, passed away after a very long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Alma was born April 14, 1933, in North Adams, MA to Laurence and Claire (Babeu) Jourdenais. She graduated from Notre Dame School in North Adams, and went on to become a telephone operator with the New England Telephone Company.

She married Arthur J. Robert on June 4, 1955, in North Adams and together they built a life full of love and companionship, hand in hand – always on the go, landing in Oxford, MA, to raise their family of six children. Alma was a loving, compassionate, thoughtful and detailed spirit with a very creative mind. She was ALWAYS knitting, crocheting, creating patterns… and using our arms to ball yarn! There wasn’t a yarn shop in Massachusetts that she didn’t visit! She sewed and quilted, even building tents over the clothesline with the quilts. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed playing games … sitting on the floor playing jacks and pick up sticks to teaching jumping rope songs … Cribbage, Scrabble, Yahtzee and Skip-Bo were some of her favorites.  Christmas baking of favorite goodies to fill the dining room table always brought warmth to the holiday and visitors by for snacks.

Alma was a devout communicant of St. Roch’s Church and shared her family time with the church and community through Campfire Girls, Lassie League, and her love of teaching knitting and crocheting at Bay Path Adult Evening School.

She was a devoted wife and mom who was very proud to be Mémère, Gram and Nana continuously making afghans for all!

Alma is predeceased by her mother Claire, father Laurence, brothers Vinal and Ernest, and granddaughter Clara Pearl Robert. She is survived by her loving husband and partner, Arthur - “Dad” and six children Charlyn Robert, Cindy Robert, Colleen Mahota and partner Mike Calocci, Laurie Cyr and husband Charles, Leanne Dionne and husband Gary, and Stephen Robert and wife Nicole; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Rebecca, Jarred, Stephanie, Matthew, Brandon, Alex and Bodhi; four great-grandchildren Audri, Arie, Nicholas and David.
