OXFORD – Alwin Clyde Santor, 83, passed away January 12, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his children, Barbara Johnson and husband Ed of Spencer, Tarry York of Oxford, Clyde Santor of Oxford, Bert Santor and his wife Marie of Worcester, Richard Santor of Webster, Lynn Schold and her husband Scott of Millbury; grandchildren; Ed, Lisa, Jackie, Steph, Ken, Trisha, Jonathan, and Julia; his great-grandchildren Derek, Jordyn, Collin, Edward, Olivia, Alexa, Aliyah, Ellie, Mikey, Rowan, Fintan, Tiernan and Jaxson. He also leaves his brother, Bradley Santor and his wife Quannie of Lawton, OK; sisters, Cory Pregent of Sharon, VT, and Esther Salls of Randolph Ctr., VT. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 50 years, Josephine H. (Mason) Santor; son Winfield “Scott” Santor; and brothers, Paul Santor, Richard Santor Sr. and Roger Santor.
He was born July 27, 1940, in Burlington, VT, to parents Clyde A. Santor and Katherine D. Charbonneau. He grew up and attended high school in Lebanon, NH. Al and Josephine moved to Massachusetts in 1967 and settled in Oxford in 1972 to raise their family. He worked as a plant superintendent at S&D Spinning Mills in Millbury for 47 years before retiring in 2014.
Al was an Army veteran, who enjoyed deep sea fishing with his brothers, sons and friends, and spending time in the Florida Keys with Brad. A lifetime member of the NRA, Al was a competitive shooter on the Worcester County Pistol League and was an Expert Marksman. He loved family cook outs and took pride in his yard. He could often be found under the maple tree, sipping a beer, admiring his handy work.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch’s Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Friday from 10 a.m. – 12 noon at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the HealthWell Foundation, P.O. Box 489 Buckeystown, MD 21717.
