Barbara Wheeler

LEICESTER - Barbara E. Wheeler, beloved sister and devoted aunt, of Leicester, died peacefully on September 25th at age 91. She leaves her sister, Joy Monopoli, and husband Nick, with whom she lived; two nephews, Jacob Monopoli of Leicester and Ben Monopoli and his husband Chris Connors of Boston; a cat, Mo; and friends. Besides her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Donald Wheeler.

She was born in 1931 to Ben and Jen (Scott) Wheeler and lived for much of her early life in the Quinsigamond area of Worcester. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1950 and worked for the next 20 years at Howard Bros. Manufacturing Co. Following this, she worked as a secretary at Worcester Baptist Church and the secretary to the Executive Director of Worcester Area Mental Health before retiring.

Barbara moved to Leicester in 1989 and remained there for the rest of her life. She was a member of Pleasant Street Baptist Church and attended Worcester Baptist Church for many years. She loved yard sales, books, bird watching, and signs of spring. She hated spiders.

At her request, there will be no services. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, c/o VNA Care, 199 Rosewood Dr., Suite 180, Danvers, MA 01923.

Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
