OXFORD – Carole P. (Holmes) Denning, 81, of Locust Street, died on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Beaumont Nursing Home in Northborough.
Carole was born in Spencer, daughter of the late Roscoe A. and Gloria E. (Gosselin) Holmes. She lived for many years in Spencer before moving to Oxford in 1986. She is survived by (and will be greatly missed by) her husband of 35 years, Deacon James M. Denning of Oxford; a daughter, Pamela Maskil and her husband Gerald of South Carolina; two sons, Kenneth J. Lapierre of Worcester, and Garrett A. Lapierre of Connecticut; a stepdaughter, Mary E. Denning of Brookline; a sister, Marcia L. Frangiosa of Worcester; a brother, Leslie G. Holmes and his wife Susan of Worcester; four grandchildren, Kristie A. Stebbins and her husband Adam, Garrett A. Lapierre Jr., Cathryn M. Lapierre, and Jacob A. Lapierre; three great-grandchildren, Brian, Abbie, and Carson; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Roscoe A. Holmes Jr. Carole will be missed by her loving family and friends.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, spending time in her gardens, and especially enjoyed the times she spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, Friends of the Oxford Library, Charlton Garden Club, and American Sewing Guild.
Carole graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer in 1960, then earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Worcester State University. She worked in the financial aid office at Becker College from 1978 to 1993, and later the financial aid office at Worcester State University from 1993-2003, where she retired as director of financial aid. Carole was an active member of Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Parish in Worcester.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester. Calling hours are Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
