NORTH OXFORD – Charles Socia Jr., 97, of Oak Drive, died Friday, September 24, 2021, in his home. He was predeceased by his wife, Hester Mae (Wilkins) Socia who died in 1997. He is survived by two children, Michael C. Socia and his wife Kathy of Littleton, and Norel M. Cronin and her husband John of North Oxford; a sister, Nora Willigar of Patten, ME; four grandchildren, Bethany Freda and her husband James, Charles Cronin and his wife Jenny, Amanda Cronin, and Jill Swanson and her husband Dale; five great-grandchildren, Ivy Hudson, Elena Cronin, Michael Hudson, Ryan Cronin, and Lydia Swanson; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick Socia and Ralph Socia; and two sisters, Pauline Soucy and Helen Shaw. He was born in Island Falls, ME, son of the late Charles and Mary Betsy (Moran) Socia Sr., and lived in North Oxford since 1955. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in Guam.
Charlie owned and operated Socia Brothers Construction in North Oxford for 5 years with his brother Ralph, specializing in siding, roofing, and windows. He worked for various siding and roofing companies throughout his life. He was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church of North Oxford, where he also served as deacon. He was actively involved in the church and volunteered his time and talents over the years working on the church building. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5663 in Oxford. He was a great family man, remaining committed to his wife throughout her illness, and loved his grandchildren more than anything.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the First Baptist Church, 693 Main St., North Oxford. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be private at a later date at North Cemetery in Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 577, North Oxford, MA 01537. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
