Claire Chickering

November 3, 1925 — May 11, 2015

OXFORD/HOLLAND - Claire (Grondin) Chickering, died peacefully at her home in Holland on Monday, May 11, 2015 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her six children, Stephen M. Chickering of West Warren, Carol A. Burlingame of Charlton, Nancy T. McCarthy of Webster, Mary J. Jackson of Dudley, Joan E. O'Day of Brookfield, and Lisa M. Chickering of Holland; 22 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter; and one nephew. She was predeceased by her son Alfred J. Chickering, and two brothers Norman Grondin and Roger L. Grondin. Claire was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Antonio Joseph and Alma (Adams) Grondin. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1943 and lived in Oxford, Charlton, and Brookfield before moving to Holland. Claire was a food service supervisor at Bancroft Nursing Home in Worcester for 15 years until retiring in 1987. She then worked part-time for Lamoureux Ford in East Brookfield for 10 years. She was a former member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford. A graveside service will be held at St. Roch's Cemetery, Oxford, at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
