OXFORD – Clare F. (O’Connell) Cahill, 94, formerly of Oxford and a resident of Notre Dame du Lac for the past 4 years, died Sunday, October 26, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Daniel W. Cahill of Oxford, who died in 2009. She is survived by seven children, Daniel J. Cahill and his wife Cheryl of Oxford, Maureen C. Barry and her husband Richard C. Barry Jr. Esq. of Boylston, Paul T. Cahill and his wife Eileen of Miami, FL, David W. Cahill of Douglas, Kathleen H. Maitland of Vernon, CT, Anne M. Cahill and her fiancé John Scirpoli of Shrewsbury, and Patricia C. Talbot and her husband Anthony of Worcester; a brother, Rev. Paul T. O’Connell of Shrewsbury; a sister, Patrica R. Wickstrom of Northbridge; 14 grandchildren: Ryan Cahill, Sean Cahill and Erin Rose; Katelyn Ahern, Christopher Barry and Courtney Barry; Adam Cahill; Andrew Cahill, Brett Cahill, and Sarah Stafinski; Ashley Cerri and Jessica Rosa; and Olivia Talbot and Lindsay Talbot; fourteen great-grandchildren, Hailey Cahill, Grace Cahill, Luke Cahill, and Mark Cahill, Molly Rose, James Rose, Rowan Ahern, Colette Ahern, Madilyn Cahill, Maila Cahill, Parker Stafinski, Peyton Stafinski, Maddox Cerri and Delilah Cerri; and many nephews and nieces.
She was born in Northbridge, daughter of the late Thomas P. and Helen M. (Cove) O’Connell, and lived in Grafton and Northbridge before moving to Oxford in 1961. She graduated from Northbridge High School in 1948, and St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1952.
Mrs. Cahill was a registered nurse at Sandalwood Nursing Home in Oxford for 30 years, retiring in 2001. Previously, she worked at St. Vincent Hospital and Fairlawn Hospital, both in Worcester, and was a member of the St. Vincent Hospital Alumni.
Mrs. Cahill was a devout Catholic throughout her life and was a longtime communicant of St. Roch’s Church. She traveled throughout the United States and abroad, and spent countless years on Cape Cod. She was proud of her Irish heritage.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved family gatherings and always prepared wonderful meals for the whole tribe.
A funeral will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Northbridge. Calling hours are Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
