Dawn Desy

OXFORD/BRIMFIELD – Dawn V. (Barrett) Desy, 83, of St. George Road and formerly of Oxford, died Saturday July 22, 2017, at the Life Care Center of Auburn, after a sudden illness. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Raymond J. Desy of Brimfield; two children, Mark O. Desy of Sturbridge and Steve B.J. Desy and his wife Susan of Brimfield; a sister, Mildred Donnelly of West Brookfield; four grandchildren, Bryce, Graydon, Louis, and Joseph Desy; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a brother, Nelson Barrett; and a sister, Roberta Lavallee. She was born in North Brookfield, daughter of the late Nelson and Mildred (Wade) Barrett, and lived in most of her life in Oxford before moving to Brimfield 11 years ago. She graduated from Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester with an associate’s degree in criminal justice.

Mrs. Desy was a dispatcher for the Oxford Police Department for 33 years, retiring in 1993. She was the 1st female police office in for the town of Oxford prior to civil service. Prior to her service with the police department, she was an electrician and a licensed practical nurse. Mrs. Desy was the treasurer of the Oxford Police Association for over 30 years, and organized the annual toy drive for the association for many years. She was a member of St. Christopher’s Church in Brimfield, and enjoyed making stained glass, playing the organ, and traveling.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at St. Christopher’s Parish, 16 Sturbridge Rd., Brimfield. Those attending are respectfully requested to meet at the church. Burial will follow at Brimfield Cemetery in Brimfield. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford.
