Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY – Earlene M. Smith, 93, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Oxford, MA, and Wolfeboro NH, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023.  Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Agnes Orcutt.   She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Emerson G. Smith who died in 2022.

She is survived by her three sons: Mark Smith and his wife Marybeth of Gorham NH, Brian Smith and his wife Patricia of Charlton, Thomas Smith and his wife Tina of Dudley; her three daughters: Carol Liro and her husband Thomas of Webster, Ann Merry of West Brookfield, Lynda Costa and her husband Michael of Uxbridge, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothea Orcutt who died in 2015.

Earlene was born and raised in Worcester, attending St. Stephen parochial school and often spoke fondly of her years there, where she developed a strong faith.  She then worked as a medical secretary for several private practices in Worcester and for Worcester City Hospital before meeting her husband and eventually settling in Oxford.  Earlene was active socially in town and participated in the Garden Club, was an active member of the Women's Club for many years, and enjoyed gathering with her and Emerson's lifelong friends in the Sacarrappa Tennis Club.  Earlene's favorite pastime was spending time with her large family at their home on Lake Winnipesaukee.  She will be dearly missed by them and all who knew and loved her.

At the convenience of the family, a private Mass will be held at Saint Roch’s Church followed by a private burial at Saint Roch’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Saint Roch’s Church, 334 Main Street, Oxford, MA 01540, in memory of Earlene.

Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
