Elmer Haskell

September 16, 1932 — January 23, 2008

AUBURN – Elmer R. "Al" Haskell, 75, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn A. (Hollows) Haskell of Auburn; three children, David Haskell of Youngsville, NC, Kathleen Cooper of Auburn, and Donna Lancey of Oxford; a brother, James Haskell of Oxford; three grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He was born in Boston, the son of the late Elmer W. and Rose L. (Flaherty) Haskell, and lived in Worcester before moving to Auburn 42 years ago. He graduated from South High School in Worcester in 1950 and later received his bachelor's degree from Clark University in Worcester. Mr. Haskell was a special education teacher at Holliston Public Schools, retiring 20 years ago. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War. He received numerous medals, including the Navy and Marine Corps Medal with "V", The Korean Service Medal with 3 stars, and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation Medal. He was active in veteran's service, including serving as past commander of both the American Legion Post 47 in Holliston, American Legion Post 58 in Oxford, and the V.F.W. Post 5663 in Oxford. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and was an avid stamp collector. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2008, at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Military burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, with the Oxford Memorial Honor Guard, participating. Calling hours are Sunday, January 27, 2008, from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Boston MA-NH Office, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.
