WORCESTER – Estelle P. (Langlois) Griffin, 91, of Winchester Avenue, died Thursday, September 21, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. She is survived by seven children, Patricia E. Jones of Oxford, Mark M. Griffin of Worcester, Matthew D. Griffin of Oxford, Laura A. McGrath of Worcester, Christopher P. Griffin of Groton, CT, Melanie M. Griffin of Worcester, and Sean T. Griffin of West Newbury; two brothers, Leo Langlois of Topeka, KS, and Eugene Langlois of Oxford; five sisters, Constance Hamel of Templeton, Jacqueline Langlois of Worcester, Simone Langlois of Worcester, Leonne Perreault of Gardner, and Paulette Bergeron of Kennebunk, ME; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her former husband, Lawrence P. Griffin who died in 2008; and a son, James L. Griffin who died in 2000. She was born in Gardner, daughter of the late Ernest and Olivine (Beaudet) Langlois, and predeceased by four brothers, Ernest “Petou” Jr., James, Roland, and George; and her sister, Joan Hamel. She lived most of her life in Worcester and North Oxford.

Mrs. Griffin was a night supervisor at the Youville House, Diocese of Worcester, for 27 years, retiring in 2006. During World War II she was a Rosie the Riveter at Parker Manufacturing in Worcester and a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and soon after the war she became the first woman in Worcester County to earn her solo pilot’s license. As a mother she was an educator and homemaker who felt that her children should never come home to an empty house, a philosophy she practiced for all children.

Mrs. Griffin was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Angels Church in Worcester and a former member of Saint Ann’s Church in North Oxford. She was a strong pro-life advocate. She enjoyed watching and playing tennis, music, cooking, dog training, going for walks, and was a talented seamstress who made her own clothing.
