Evadne Lovett

HAVERHILL – Evadne (Maynard) Lovett, 96, formerly of Merriam District, North Oxford, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Howard W. Lovett of Haverhill, who died in 1987. She is survived by five daughters, Katherine W. Holda and her husband Felix of Stoddard, NH, Susan H. Schmid and her husband Arthur of Marlow, NH, Dorothy E. Buckley and her husband Fred of Hartford, CT, Kristin L. MacKay and her husband Gene of Oxford, and Deborah M. Dyer and her husband David of Haverhill; fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by three brothers, Perne R. Maynard of Florida, who died in 1997, Edward E. Maynard of North Oxford, who died in 2003, and Charles W. Maynard of Connecticut, who died in 2006; and a sister, Marian M. Allard of Haverhill, who died in 1995. She was born in Enfield, MA, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Tudis L. (Elliott) Maynard, and lived in Ellington, CT, Kankakee, IL, Haverhill, and North Oxford, before moving back to Haverhill in 2004. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1928, graduated from Brown University in 1932, and attended Willimantic State College in Willimantic, CT. Mrs. Lovett was an elementary school teacher in CT for 25 years, mostly in the Ellington Public Schools in Ellington CT, retiring in 1975. She was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford, the Congregational Church in Ellington, CT, St. John's United Church of Christ in Kankakee, IL, and the First Baptist Church in North Oxford. In several of these churches she served on the Diaconate. Mrs. Lovett was a former member of the League of Women Voters in Kankakee, IL. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Haverhill Chapter, and an associate member of the Oxford Chapter. Mrs. Lovett was a life member of the Connecticut Board of Education, a member of the National Education Association, and a member of the John Greenleaf Whittier Society in Haverhill. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2007, the First Baptist Church, 217 Main St., Haverhill. Burial will be private at North Cemetery, Oxford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, is directing the arrangements.
