WEBSTER – Grace Kathleen Carmark, a fierce advocate for the homeless and a lifelong lover of animals, passed away peacefully.
Born on August 5, 1960, in Providence, Rhode Island, Grace was the beloved daughter of the late Ronald Carmark and E. Leah Winsor Carmark. She is survived by her dear brother Ronald Carmark of Rumford, Rhode Island, and cousins Linda Gordius of Rye, New Hampshire, Susan Cayer of Minot, Maine, and Jori Costa of Holbrook, Massachusetts. Grace dedicated her life to helping others. As the former Executive Director of Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance (CMHA), she led the organization for over 25 years, guiding it through significant growth and expanding its impact on families in need. Her tireless commitment to safe and stable housing transformed countless lives and left a lasting legacy in the community.
When she was not championing housing for vulnerable families, Grace found joy and peace at her family’s island home in Webster, Massachusetts. This special place was her sanctuary, where she relaxed surrounded by her beloved adopted pets. Known for her warmth and generosity, Grace loved welcoming friends and family to the lake, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and connection.
Grace will be remembered for her compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to both people and animals.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the United Congregational Church, 6 Institute Road, Worcester, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Grace’s memory to Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 136, East Brookfield, MA 01515.
