WEBSTER – James W. Hoover, 86, of Genevieve Lane, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at UMass Memorial Health – Harrington at Webster. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kathleen M. Houlihan-Hoover; his former spouse, Lucy Hoover of Texas; a daughter, Elizabeth Hoover of North Carolina; a son, James Hoover, Jr. and his wife Kim of Texas; a stepson, Timothy J. Van Dam and his wife Jackie of Connecticut; a brother Neil Hoover and his wife Martha of Mississippi; his sister-in-law, Lori Dupont and her husband Steven of Connecticut; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and his best buddy, Cinnamon the dog. He is predeceased by his son, George Hoover who died in 1990; two sisters, Missy and Pauline; and his brother, Richard.
Mr. Hoover was born in Coldwater Michigan, son of the late James P. and Mildred (Marshall) Hoover and moved to Webster in 1995, after travelling across the world during his service in the United States Air Force. After serving in the United States Air Force, Mr. Hoover worked at Data General as a Data Processing Engineer before his retirement.
James loved working with computers, and was an avid photographer throughout his life, always taking pictures and having the best cameras. He enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and stargazing through his telescope at night. He was a quiet and simple person, who took great pride in his service with the United States Air Force.
Services will be held privately at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
