AUBURN – Joan I. (Beland) Hicks, 82, of Washington Street, died peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022, in her home. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Robert “Huey” H. Hicks who died in 1996. She is survived by three sons, Douglas M. Lapensee and his wife Sandy of Auburn, Michael L. Hicks and his wife Kelli of Barre, and Dennis J. Lapensee of Auburn; three sisters, Lorraine Berthiaume of Kentucky, Barbara Faford and her husband Paul of Charlton, and Linda Faford and her husband Peter of Charlton; eleven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. She was predeceased by her son, Robert H. Hicks who died in 1999; her daughter, Alice L. Castellano who died in 2015; two brothers, Joseph Beland and Harry Beland; and a sister, Theresa Robichaud. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Alphonse H. and Gladys (Stapleton) Beland, was raised in Oxford and lived most of her life in Charlton before moving to Auburn eight years ago.
Mrs. Hicks was a nurse’s aide in the N.I.C.U. at Memorial Hospital in Worcester for over 20 years. She proudly stayed home to care for her home and family when her children were young. She was an avid sports fan, especially the Red Sox and Patriots, and enjoyed going to the casino and playing bingo. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Charlton.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at West Ridge Cemetery, Main St., Charlton. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
