OXFORD – Johanne E. (Potter) Walker, 87, of Waite Street, died Saturday, October 16, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after a short illness. She is survived by three children, Dawn J. Hendricks of Bethlehem, PA, Elaine R. Simpson and her husband David of Uxbridge, and Gordon D. Walker of Oxford; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren (with another on the way), and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her former husband, Robert E. Walker who died in 1995; two sisters, and one brother. She was born in Springfield, VT, daughter of the late Roy G. and Margaret A. (Grover) Potter, and lived in Vermont, Sutton, and Uxbridge, before moving to Oxford 32 years ago. She graduated from Sutton High School in 1952, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Ms. Walker was a clerical worker most of her life. She was a member of the W.A.V.E.S. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Sutton, where she served as a deacon, collector, and belonged to the Women’s Fellowship. She was a member of the Sutton Historical Society for many years, and enjoyed reading in her spare time.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the First Congregational Church, 307 Boston Post Road, Sutton. Burial will be at a later date at New Howard Cemetery in Sutton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 307 Boston Post Road, Sutton, MA 01590. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
