John Kiely

OXFORD – John “Jack” V. Kiely, 91, of Carron Lane, died Monday, November 30, 2020, in his home.  He was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Maria L. (Meijer) Kiely who died in 2009.  He is survived by four sons, James L. Kiely and his wife Josie Cambria-Kiely of Sturbridge, Timothy J. Kiely and his wife Sharlene of Oxford, Christopher J. Kiely and his wife Suzanne of Worthington, and Daniel P. Kiely and his wife Christina of North Attleboro; his brother, Robert Kiely and his wife Ginny of Quechee, VT; his sister, Ruth Shaefer of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.  He was born in Cambridge, son of the late William F. and Edna C. (Kennedy) Kiely, and lived in Cambridge, Franklin, and Nashua, NH, before moving to Oxford five years ago.  He graduated from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Bordentown, NJ.  He later received a bachelor’s degree from Boston College in 1956 and a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts in Boston.

Mr. Kiely was a special education teacher at Nashua Catholic Schools for many years.  Previously he taught for Enfield, CT, Franklin, and Walpole public schools.  Throughout his teaching career, he taught English, literature, civics, and speech.

Mr. Kiely was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church in Nashua, NH, and a member of St. Roch’s Church in Oxford.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Boniface Council #11907 in Nashua, NH, since 1958, and served as past grand knight.  He was a 4th Degree member of the Knight of Columbus.  He volunteered extensively for St. Vincent de Paul and was a member of the Men of St. Joseph.  He could speak multiple languages and enjoyed reading and writing in Latin and Greek.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 4, 2020, St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford.  Those attending are respectfully requested to meet at the church.  Graveside committal services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Hudson, NH.  There are no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.  Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
