OXFORD – John F. Phillips, 94, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Natalie Walker of Madison, FL; his son, John A. Phillips II of Oxford; his daughter-in-law, Maureen Sweeney; his two grandchildren, Alexandra Phillips, and Bryan Phillips and his wife Victoria; and two great-grandchildren, Rowan and Ruby. He was predeceased by his wife Regina (Riel) Phillips in 1996; and three brothers, Wendell Phillips, Merrill Phillips, and Donald Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was the son of Mr. John A. Phillips and Mrs. Gladys (Montcalm) Phillips. He was born in Cummaquid, Barnstable, MA. He was a longtime member of the Oxford United Methodist Church.
Mr. Phillips was employed by the George Meyer’s Company in West Boylston for over thirty years as supervisor of the assembly and sub-assembly machinery division. Mr. Phillips served four years in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator during World War II, attaining the rank of ensign. He flew DC-3 and DC-4 throughout the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. After retirement, Mr. Phillips enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and vacationing in Florida.
At this time, the family would like to thank the VNA of Southern Worcester County for their continued support with hospice care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA of Southern Worcester County, 534 School St., Webster, MA 01570. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at North Cemetery in Oxford. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
