CHARLTON – Joseph Lawrence Maloney, Sr., 90, of Gale Road, went home to the Lord on Friday, December 12, 2025.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Ann M. (Carmichael) Maloney of Charlton; three sons, Joseph Maloney Jr. and his wife Patricia of Mattapoisett, Michael Maloney and his wife Rose of Westerly, RI, and Timothy Maloney and his wife Stacey of New Bedford; four daughters, Jean Hagerman and her husband Douglas of Colorado Springs, CO, Pauline Bremser of Lyman, ME, Mary Stone and her husband Scott of Charlton, and Maureen Maloney of Webster; a sister, Kathleen Maloney of West Roxbury; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several cousins, and many nephews, nieces, and friends. He was predeceased by five brothers, James, John, Thomas, Brian, and William.
He was born in Boston, son of the late Michael J. and Marie M. (Curwen) Maloney, and lived in Wareham for 20 years and Mashpee for 20 years, before moving to Charlton in 2024. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Jamaica Plain in 1952.
Mr. Maloney proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1974 as Master Chief after over 20 years of service. After retiring from the military, he worked at Sippican Corporation in Marion for 20 years.
He was very committed to his Catholic faith. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham for 20 years, Christ the King Church in Mashpee for 20 years, and joined St. Joseph’s Church in Charlton after moving to the area in 2024. Throughout his life he served as a sacristan, lector, CCD teacher, Eucharistic minister, and altar server. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 13388 at Christ the King Church in Mashpee, and served as treasurer and past grand knight.
He loved music, played the piano, and especially enjoyed entertaining the patients V.A. Hospital in Brockton during Christmas.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Church, 10 H. Putnam Rd. Ext., Charlton. Calling hours are Saturday from 9:00-10:45 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church prior to the Mass. Burial with military funeral honors will be Monday, December 22, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, P.O. Box 338, Charlton City, MA 01508.
