CHARLTON – Joseph Justice Peters Jr., 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Sharon E. (Blakely) Peters; two daughters, Jessica M. Speck and her husband Mike of Charlton, and Erica L. Peters-Skowron and her husband Steven of Oxford; two sisters, Carol Marano of Florida and Donna Haig of Pennsylvania; a half-sister, Paula Peters of South Carolina; five cherished grandchildren, Jacinda Peters, Jerrika Rodriguez-Peters, Sevie Speck, Harper Skowron, and Slate Skowron, five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Verna Mauz and Deborah Wagner, and a half-brother, Jeffery (Paul) Peters.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Justice and Grace Elizabeth (Custalow) Peters. He spent most of his life in Charlton. After high school, he served in the Army National Guard and later attended night school to become a master electrician—a trade he practiced with dedication throughout his life.
Mr. Peters was the proud owner and operator of J&E Electric in Charlton for 38 years, retiring in 2018. In 1977, he built the family home in Charlton, where he and Sharon raised their daughters.
A familiar face in the community, Mr. Peters was once considered one of the best pool players in Worcester County. He was also an avid vegetable gardener, widely known for growing tomato plants that reached an impressive 12 feet tall. A skilled woodworker, he crafted many beautiful pieces for his home and family. He and Sharon enjoyed many memorable vacations together in Aruba over the years. A devoted fan of the Red Sox and Patriots, he especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren and rarely missed one of their sporting events.
The family would like to thank the staff of VNA Hospice & Palliative Care for their compassionate care and support during Joe’s final days.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 4–7 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oxford.
