OXFORD - Joseph Sean Uryasz Sr., 68, died Monday, May 5, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan M. (Vancelette) Uryasz of Oxford; two children, Laura A. Morrow and her husband Kevin of Oxford, and Joseph S. Uryasz, Jr and his wife Angela Grella of Holden; two sisters, Ann Hurley and her husband William of Plantsville, CT, and Maureen Uryasz of Worcester; 6 grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Landen, Hunter, Cody, Leo, Ryder, Josie, and one on the way; four nieces, Sara, Megan, Katie, and Ellen; and many close friends.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late Joseph J. and Catherine J. (Hearn) Uryasz, and lived in Oxford for 38 years.
He graduated from Holy Name High School in Worcester in 1974, and received his bachelor's degree from St. Michael's College in Vermont in 1978.
Mr. Uryasz worked for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue for 37 years, retiring in 2018. Upon his retirement, he received the “Key to the City” of Worcester from Mayor Petty. He was a member of St. Ann's Church in North Oxford, where he was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
He enjoyed Vermont, vacationing at the Maine coast, and music. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. In his younger years you could find him on the sidelines coaching his children in Oxford Youth Soccer, and in recent years he could be found on the sidelines cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting and school events.
His family meant everything to him.
He had a great sense of humor and was one of the kindest people you could meet. Life gave him many challenges, but he never complained and lived his life with grace.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Friday, May 9, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
On May 22, 2007, his niece, Sara, donated a kidney to him. That gift gave him 18 more years with his family, and improved his quality of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852. You may also consider donations to the Clara Barton Camp for Children with Diabetes, P.O. Box 356, North Oxford, MA 01537.
