OXFORD – Judith A. (Shaw) Conant, 78, of Water Street, died Friday, April 30, 2021, in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Michael G. Conant of Oxford; two sons, Michael G. Conant Jr. and his wife Barbarajean of Oxford, and Steven F. Conant of Oxford; two brothers, Kenneth Shaw and his wife Elsie of Taunton, and Forest Thorpe of Hyannis; two sisters, Darlene Haglund of Oxford and Donna Anderson and her husband Robert of Spencer; three grandsons, Joshua M. Conant (who was always by her side) and his fiancée Jillian Orsini of Dudley, James Conant and Kevin Conant, both of Woodstock, CT; five great-grandchildren, David, Travis, and Ariana Breault, and Colton and Finnegan Conant; and many nephews, nieces, and friends. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Kenneth Shaw and Marie (O’Malley) Carney, and lived in Worcester before moving to Oxford 50 years ago. She graduated from Abington High School in 1960.
Mrs. Conant was a social worker and director of case management for Wingate Rehabilitation in Worcester, retiring in 2017 after 43 years of service from nurse’s aide to director. In her younger years, she was an accomplished archer and won 2nd place in New England for bare bow archery in 1967. She was a die-hard Patriots fan and season ticket holder since 1978. She enjoyed trips with family and friends to Old Orchard Beach and spending time with her husband at their vacation home in Vermont.
The family would like to thank Dana-Farber at Milford Regional Medical Center, especially Dr. Natalie Sinclair and her staff, and nurse Janet Rogers, for their exceptional care during her treatment.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be private at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Westmore, Vermont. Calling hours are Monday May 3, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Center at Milford Regional Medical Center, 20 Prospect St., Milford, MA 01757.
