Karen Mcgrath

ROCHDALE – Karen Ann (O’Leary) McGrath, 70, of Parker Street, died Wednesday, July 6, 2022, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She is survived by her husband of 49 years, David W. McGrath of Rochdale; three children, Bryan McGrath and his wife Dr. Sunita McGrath of Tampa, FL, Kerry Mallett and her husband Keith of Auburn, and Colleen Tebo and her husband Matthew of Leicester; two sisters, Donna Boulay and her husband Steven of Shrewsbury, and Mary-Kate O’Leary of West Warwick, RI; two brothers, Michael O’Leary and his wife Laurie, and Timothy O’Leary and his wife Vicki, all of Millbury; six grandchildren, Molly Hoefler, Elizabeth Tebo, Adam Tebo, Keira McGrath, Connor McGrath, and Evan McGrath; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas O’Leary who died in 1978; and her step mother, Carol A. O’Leary who died in 2004.  She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Raymond J. and Esther (Mero) O’Leary.  She graduated from Marian Catholic High School in 1969.

Mrs. McGrath was a nurse at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for 40 years, including 32 years in the Maternity Department.  Later, she worked at Chandler Pediatrics in Worcester.  She was a member of St. Aloysius-St. Jude Parish in Leicester, and was a member of the Prayer Shawl Group, Ladies Guild, and the choir.  She was a member of the Leicester Garden Club and the Golden Needles Knitting Group.  Mrs. McGrath was a skilled crafter, excelling at knitting, crocheting, and sewing.  She enjoyed baking and most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice, especially nurse Paulette and her staff, for their exceptional care during her illness.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Aloysius-St. Jude Parish, 489 Pleasant St., Leicester.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester.  Calling hours are Friday, July 15, 2022, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to A Wish Come True, 1010 Warwick Ave., Warwick, RI 02888.
