OXFORD – Kenneth “Skip” Greig Metcalf, 77, of Carron Lane, died peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston, from complications of a spinal cord injury sustained in 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy A. (Delaney) Metcalf of Oxford; two daughters, Nicole B. Green and her husband Geoffrey of Northborough, and Jessica L. Metcalf and her partner Michael Dunn of Oxford; a brother, Donald Metcalf and his wife Diane of Whitinsville; a sister, Kathy Schall and her husband Stephen of Dudley; four grandchildren, Braelyn Dunn, Kellsey Dunn, Stephen Green, and Jackson Green; his mother-in-law, Ethel Theodore of Webster; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leslie Metcalf and Robert Metcalf.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late Leslie W. and Della M. (Sutherland) Metcalf Sr., and lived most of his life in Oxford. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade then received his associate’s degree from Quinsigamond Community College.
Mr. Metcalf worked for Nissen Bakery for 30 years, retiring in 2000. After retiring, he was a school bus driver for Laidlaw Bus Company for 9 years. Skip loved sports – playing high schools sports in his youth, softball in the Jack Benny League, and golfing. He also coached youth sports for many years, including Babe Ruth Baseball. Most of all, he loved getting together with family and friends, and enjoyed family parties. Skip was also quick with a joke and loved getting others to laugh.
Skip’s family is grateful for the care from his PCA's, especially most recently Laura Fasshaeur and Joy Zacek, allowing him to remain at home for so long after his injury. The family is also especially grateful for the excellent care from Oakdale Rehab and the JHC hospice program.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
