Marilyn M. Bigelow

LEICESTER – Marilyn M. (McCarthy) Bigelow, 94, of Pleasant Street, died Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Leon J. Bigelow who died in 2023. She is survived by three children, Richard L. Bigelow and his wife Sherrill of Groveland, James B. Bigelow and his wife Rose of Utah, and Carol Ann Sala and her husband David of North Oxford; four grandchildren, Racheal Bigelow, Michael Bigelow, Brianna Bigelow, and Ashlyn Bigelow; and her nephew Sean McCarthy and his wife Jennifer. She was predeceased by her brother, Chester McCarthy of Oxford.

She was born in Holden, daughter of the late Marion (Eames) McCarthy, and lived in Oxford before moving to Leicester in 1992. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1950.

Mrs. Bigelow was a nurse’s aide at Bay Path R.V.T. High School in Charlton for 16 years, retiring in 1997. Previously she was a teacher’s aide for Oxford Public Schools for 6 years and worked at Chaffee Brothers in Oxford.

She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford. She was a den mother and cub scout leader for the Boy Scouts and scout leader for the Girl Scouts for 15 years when her children were young.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sam and Dr. Gahndi, as well as the nurses at St. Vincents Hospital for their care of Marilyn.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at North Cemetery, Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 585, Oxford, MA 01540.

Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
