Marshall E. Provost

OXFORD – Marshall E. Provost, 80, of Wheelock Street, died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, F. Hilary (Orr) Provost; two daughters, Bonnie Lee O’Brien and her husband Richard of Oxford, and Cheryl Matthews of Missouri; a stepson, Albert Lazaro of Oxford; three sisters, Sheila Evans of Townsend, Donna Errede of Grafton, and Gerry O’Toole; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marion Lazaro who died in 1996; and a brother, Richard Provost who died in 2017.

Mr. Provost was born in Worcester, son of the late Francis and Rita (White) Provost, and lived in Auburn before moving to Oxford in 1985.

Mr. Provost owned and operated L&H Sewerage Inc. in Oxford since 2001, retiring in 2012. His father established the company in 1971, and Marshall assisted him throughout his life. Previously he worked for F.M. Provost Farm in Auburn. Marshall had many talents that led him to many jobs throughout his life, including setting gravestones for Person Monument, building stone walls, and operating his own sawmill for lumber and cord wood. He always took great pride in his strong work ethic. His fondest memories were working on the farm with his uncle Frannie, caring for 32 milking cows.

Mr. Provost also collected garbage in Auburn, which he would then deliver to local pig farms. Although he was not a member, Marshall spent time assisting his father at the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, playing hockey and football, and collecting Marvel and sports cards with Al.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Christ Church, 569 Main Street, Fitchburg. Calling hours are Monday, October 5, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oxford. Burial will be held at a later date at North Cemetery in Oxford.
