OXFORD – Mary “Connie” C. (Tavares) Voas, 85, died Friday, November 4, 2022, in her home. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Raymond J. Voas Sr., who died in 2004. She is survived by twelve children, Raymond J. Voas Jr. of Webster, Dianne M. Kasabula and her husband Paul of Millbury, Carl M. Voas of Washington, NH, John M. Voas of Oxford, Mary Ellen Randall and her husband Scott of Oxford, Renee M. Kaiser and her husband Rob of Pinetop, AZ, Peter J. Voas and his wife Melissa of Webster, David M. Voas and his wife Deanne of Oxford, Thomas F. Voas of Leesburg, FL, Michael Voas and his wife Christine of Oxford, Cynthia M. Forrester and her husband Tony of Bremerton, WA, and Matthew G. Voas and his wife Erin of Urbana, MD; a sister, Laura Bomback and her husband Herman of Swansea; 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Manuel Tavares of Fall River. She was born on San Miguel Island in the Azores, daughter of the late Manuel J.B. and Margaret (Bettencourt) Tavares. Shortly thereafter in 1938, she moved to New England. She was raised in Fall River and attended Morton Junior High School and Durfee High School.
In 1970, Mrs. Voas, with her husband and 10 children, moved to a home in Oxford. There, her last 2 children were born. Her greatest pride was her family of 12 children. She worked at Walmart from 1993 to 2002, in addition to working at N&J Donuts and Cumberland Farms in Oxford. She was an active member of St. Roch’s Church in Oxford, a member of the choir, and served on several church committees. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Oxford. Her hobbies included gardening, sketching, and reading. She also dabbled in writing and composed a short memoir for her family entitled “America the Beautiful.”
A funeral will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch’s Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, and will conclude with the rosary at 8:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Roch’s Church, 334 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.
