OXFORD – Myrtle Catherine (Hamilton) Bacon, 91 of Oxford passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026.
She was born in Oxford, daughter of the late Bernard and Myrtle (Crosby) Hamilton, and lived there most of her life.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Roger D. Bacon Jr., who died in 2024.
She is survived by 4 daughters: Virginia Beamsley and her husband Alan of New Mexico, Catherine Looney and her husband John of Holland, Jane Bania of Oxford, and Sara Bacon of California.
Grandchildren: Meghan Looney and her partner Ray Gonyea, Heather Wilson and husband Michael, Daniel Looney and wife Rebecca, Jason Harty and wife Kelsey, Maureen Connery and husband Scott, Craig Beamsley, Cameron Beamsley and wife Kiana, Kristen Tecci and husband Matt.
Great Grandchildren: Dylan Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson, Peyton Thompson, Caiden Connery, Sean Wilson, Teagan Connery, Evan Wilson, Liam Wilson, John Connery, Luke Looney, Daniel Looney, Andrew Looney and Eva Beamsley.
Siblings: Jack Hamilton, Judy Labonte, Norma Parker, and Jane Faucher.
She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Martin Bania; her sisters, Joyce Casey and Lois Dion.
Myrtle was married to Roger on November 26, 1952, and they enjoyed 71 wonderful years together. They raised four daughters in Oxford. Myrtle worked for Worcester Junior College and ended her career at UMass Medical School when it first opened. She was the 13th employee in the early 70s where she retired from and was active with the Alumni of UMass Medical School retirees.
She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Oxford, the Oxford Woman’s Club along with the Historical and Huguenot Society of Oxford. She was an avid women’s basketball fan and longtime ticket holder of the UConn Girls Basketball team. Myrtle worked for the MIAA alongside her husband for over 32 years, keeping the books and ticket organizing for the Central Mass Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament yearly. Myrtle and Roger enjoyed their beautiful cottage on Sebago Lake, where they participated in many fishing and community events, along with making life-long friendships.
The family would like to thank the staff at UMass Memorial Health Center, and Preferred Transitions, for the exceptional care given to Myrtle during her illness.
Calling hours are Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 4-6 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oxford. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 355 Main Street, Oxford. Burial to follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Following the burial, a celebration of her life will be held at Point Breeze Restaurant in Webster, and everyone is invited to attend.
