Philip Spinney

OXFORD – Philip K. Spinney, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017. He was born on Buffalo Hill Farm in Oxford on September 4th during the hurricane of 1938 and lived in Oxford his entire life. He was the son of the late Kenneth E. and Mayfred D. (Crocker) Spinney. Phil was a member of the local Fife and Drum Corps in his early years which gave him a forever sense of rhythm. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1956, attended Worcester Junior College and served in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1957 to 1959. He worked at Radio Maintenance, Chicago Dressed Beef and retired from Norton Company/St. Gobain in 2000 after 34 years, where he worked as an engineering technician.

Phil was an avid Ham Radio Operator (K1JWL), member of the Oxford Civil Defense Mobile Unit and a member of the American Radio Relay League. He was also a member of the Oxford Lodge of Masons AF & AM. During his life he truly enjoyed camping, flying gas powered R/C planes and trips to Nova Scotia.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Martha S. (Hill) Spinney; daughter Karin Winsky and husband David; son Stephen P. Spinney and fiancée Stephanie Lee; grandchildren Alyssa Hunter and significant other Anthony Bernardo, Jake and Christina Winsky, Meaghan and Madison Spinney and great grandchildren Lily Hunter and Dominic Bernardo. He also leaves his sister Geraldine Smith of Sutton and several nieces and nephews.

Known to family as Papa, he will be deeply missed and will be forever remembered for his quick wit, sarcasm, matter-of-fact opinions and overwhelming sense of generosity.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the caregivers at Blaire House in Worcester who have provided a constant sense of comfort and care during his time there.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Lodge of Masons, P.O. Box 138, Oxford, MA 01540-0138. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
