THOMPSON, CT – Raymond G. Austin, 85, of Thompson Road, passed away comfortably in his sleep on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, after a week-long family reunion with loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane F. (Wheeler) Austin of Thompson; three children, Randy Austin and his wife Donna of Thompson, James Austin and his wife Lisa of Mount Angel, OR, and Dianne Barrett and her husband David of Thompson; five grandchildren, Brian Austin of Rhode Island, Danielle Austin-Herb and her husband Dustin of Oregon, Chad Austin and his wife Kimberly of Thompson, Heather Wassarman and her husband Chris of Texas, and Katie Austin of Oregon; a step-granddaughter, Lori Barrett; five great-grandchildren, Aydriana, Taya, Eleanor, Lottie Jane, and Jack; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carl Austin and David Austin; a sister, Glenda Dern; and a grandson, Heath.

He was born in Webster, son of the late Fred and Hildur (Hockenson) Austin. He graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster in 1958.

Mr. Austin worked at Cranston Print Works in Webster for 30 years, retiring as the superintendent of print in 1999. Previously he worked at the Aba Textile Mill in Nigeria, Africa, and worked in the textile industry throughout his life. He was a member of the Thompson Lions Club and the Oxford Lodge of Masons. He loved to travel and was able to visit all 50 states, as well as the countries of Holland, Africa, England, Germany, and Italy.

He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and as “Pa” to his grandchildren. He was always there for his family.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to TEEG, P.O. Box 664, 15 Thatcher Rd., North Grosvenordale, CT 06255.

Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
