OXFORD - Richard G. Anderson, 83, died Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Lanessa Extended Care in Webster. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Jean P. (O'Loughlin) Anderson, who died in 2008. He is survived by four children, Michael R. Anderson of Tennessee, Susan J. O'Brien and her husband Joseph of Auburn, Kevin P. Anderson and his wife Debbie of Oxford, and Sharon J. Narel and her husband Lenny of Worcester; a sister, Constance Gregory of Auburn; six grandchildren, Ashley, Patrick, Mark, Matthew, Emily, and Kayla; and two great grandchildren, Aidan and Liam. He was predeceased by two sons, Richard G. Anderson III of Oxford who died in 1953, and Stephen J. Anderson of Oxford who died in 1961; and two brothers, John E. Anderson of Oxford who died in 2008, and Paul R. Anderson of Auburn who died in 2008. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Richard G. and Ellen (Doherty) Anderson, and lived in Oxford for many years and Port Charlotte, FL, for 20 years, before moving to Auburn 9 years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Anderson was a police officer with the Oxford Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1989. Previously, he worked at New England High Carbon in Millbury. He was a member of the Oxford Police Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a former member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4241 in Oxford. He was a life member and past commander of the American Legion Post 58 in Oxford. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Dodge Park Rest Home in Worcester for their exceptional care over the past four years. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, from Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
