OXFORD – Richey C. Fields, 94, of Park Street, died peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Frances C. (Marrone) Fields who died in 2022. He is survived by five children, Nancy M. Guertin and her husband P. Philip of Farragut, TN, John W. Fields and his wife Lisa of Oxford, Susan J. Peltier and her husband Kevin of Sutton, Daniel P. Fields and his wife Julie of Charlton, and Janet A. Fields of East Falmouth; his daughter-in-law, Toni M. Fields of Oxford; seventeen grandchildren, Adam, Ashley, Jessica, Michael, Lori, Stephanie, Stephen, Nicholas, Benjamin, Alexander, Christopher, Lindsay, Abby, Samantha, Mitchell, John, and Mark; many great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a son, Robert J. Fields who died in 2008.
He was born and raised in Boardman, NC, son of the late Brad and Gladys (Brown) Fields. He attended schools in Boardman, NC, and graduated from the National School of Heavy Equipment in Charlotte, NC. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who honorably served during the Korean War. While serving on the U.S.S. Competent minesweeper, he was the recipient of many medals.
He owned and operated a livestock and grain farm in Illinois for many years. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator on many large construction projects in New England, and was a retired member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4 in Boston. Being with his family over the years brought him great joy and happiness. He will be lovingly missed and forever remembered.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Those attending are respectfully requested to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942
