Robert Jeffrey

WORCESTER, MA – Robert A. Jeffrey, 83, formerly of Oxford and Gloucester, Massachusetts, died May 25, 2018. His wife Marilyn Elizabeth (Duran) Jeffrey predeceased him in 2006. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia A. Wessell and her husband Ernest of Sturbridge, Kathryn M. Crees and her husband Jack of Canterbury, CT, and Patricia A. McGuinness and her husband James of Rutland; his beloved grandchildren, Patrick John Kuhn of Brooklyn, CT, Dr. Jeffrey Wessell of Charleston, S.C., Lindsay Wessell of Sturbridge, and Claire, Erin and Colin McGuinness of Rutland; and his step-grandchildren, Jessica Jellison of Pomfret, CT, Karl Kuhn, Jr. of Thompson, CT, Samantha Crees of Plainfield, CT.

Mr. Jeffrey was born in Gloucester, the son of the late Mildred A. (Gerring) Jeffrey and John Henry Jeffrey, and lived in Maine, Oxford, and Thompson, CT. Mr. Jeffrey was a former member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of Oxford. He was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard retiring in 1975. He proudly served as the Officer in Charge of Search and Rescue Station in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and retired in 1975 after opening the Newburyport, MA, station as Officer in Charge. He achieved the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (Boatswain mate). He then worked for the State of Massachusetts Department of Correction and served on the Riot Control Squad.

His joys in life were Irish music, singing, dancing with his wife or daughters, his veteran affiliations, hunting, fishing, boating and especially enjoyed being a longtime supporter and fan of Boston College football.

A private military funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Roch’s Cemetery, Oxford.
