OXFORD – Robert “Bob” Metcalf died on November 26, 2025, in his house in Oxford after complications from a lengthy illness. He was the first-born son of the late Leslie William Metcalf Sr. and Della Mae (Sutherland) Metcalf.
Bob spent the first 13 years of his life living on Tower Street in Worcester. Then in 1954, Les and Della decided to move the family to a house on Carron Lane in Oxford. Bob graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School in 1960, and was a skilled welder. He landed a position with Massachusetts Electric Company, where he spent his entire career until his retirement in 1998.
He has 3 living siblings; Kenneth Metcalf, Donald Metcalf, and Kathy (Metcalf) Schall. He was pre-deceased by another brother, Leslie “Billy” Metcalf Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Helen (Strack) Metcalf, whom he married in 1962. At that time, they purchased their life-long house at 52 Walnut Street in Oxford. He leaves a daughter Ann (Metcalf) Girard, son Paul Metcalf and his wife Robin, two grandchildren, Benjamin and Theodore Girard, and great-granddaughter Hannah.
Bob and Patricia would enjoy summer trips with Ben and Ted, bringing them to Ocean City, Maryland. During his later years he enjoyed spending warm seasons at his vacation house on Sabattus Pond in Maine. Time was spent caring for his precious dogs, Bear and Angel, carefully manicuring his lawn and gardens or enjoying local seafood. He also enjoyed the Red Sox and the Patriots and spent many afternoons trying to coach the teams through the TV from his couch.
