OXFORD – Robert J. Phillipo, 76, of Lady Lake, FL, and formerly of Oxford, died Thursday, August 28, 2025, after a 2 ½ year battle with bladder cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Paula T. (Boin) Phillipo of Lady Lake, FL; two children, Robert J. Phillipo Jr. and his fiancée Kaitlin Cotter of Millbury, and Melissa L. Dube and her partner Chris Walsh of Oxford; two stepchildren, Keith Greiner and his husband Paul Reynolds of Ware, and David Greiner and his wife Jennifer of Warren; a brother, John R. Phillipo and his wife Megan of South Yarmouth; a sister, Donna M. O’Halloran of Lady Lake, FL; and a sister-in-law, Diane Phillipo of Norwich, CT; eight grandchildren, Alanna, Anthony, Aiden, Gabriella, Nathan, Andrew, Kacey, and Karlene; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Karen Ivy Phillipo who died in 1997; and two brothers, Steven M. Phillipo and Michael J. Phillipo and his brother-in-law Daniel O’Halloran.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late John R. and Claire V. (Cusson) Phillipo, and lived most of his life in Oxford before relocating to Lady Lake, FL, eleven years ago. He graduated from St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, and received a bachelor’s degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.
Mr. Phillipo worked for Heald Machine for many years. Later, he founded Care Ambulance with his brother, which they operated until retirement. He was an avid sports fan and played softball in Oxford and Webster, where he played for the Jack Benny League. He loved ice hockey and was a goalie in the Auburn Men’s League for 36 years. Later, he played goalie for the Rusty Blades Worcester. He continued playing softball when he moved to Lady Lake. He also developed a love of golf in Florida. He was a member of the H.O.A. Board in his community in Lady Lake.
He was a multi-faceted individual with a wide range of skills. His diverse interests included music, trivia, computer technology, designing and building houses and cinema. He along with Paula enjoyed traveling, and especially loved cruises and exploring Europe. He established friendships with numerous individuals globally. His passing will be deeply felt by a vast number of people.
Memorial calling hours are Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 1-4 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. A short memorial service will be held on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the conclusion of calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at North Cemetery in Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
