Roger Fosgate, Sr.

WEBSTER – Roger D. Fosgate, Sr., 80, of Stefaniak Avenue, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the St. Francis Nursing Center in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Diane M. (Miller) Leber-Fosgate of Webster; six children, Roger Fosgate Jr. of Naples, FL, Geoffrey Fosgate of South Africa, Laura Hatfield of Charlotte, NC, Pamela Kavanaugh of Florida, Janet Ellis of Sutton, and Hal Leber of Milford; his daughter-in-law, Angella Leber of Webster; his brother, Ray Huff of Westerly, RI; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two children, Linda May-Christiansen who died in 2012, and Kent Leber who died in 2017; and a brother, David Fosgate. He was born in Framingham, son of the late Kermit Theodore Fosgate and Gertrude (Bryden) Opacki, and lived in Webster for 11 years. He graduated from Westboro High School in 1954. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a military police officer before becoming a paratrooper serving with the 82nd Airborne Division in Germany during the war.

Mr. Fosgate worked at Wells Generators in Framingham. In addition, he worked for the Town of Framingham. After retirement, he went back to college and received his Associates Degree. He was a member of Oak Hill Bible Church in Oxford, where he was a member of the Men’s Discipleship, Ecumenical Council, and Board of Missions. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 391 in Charlton and volunteered his time at the Overlook Masonic Home. Mr. Fosgate was a wonderful wood craftsman. He loved gardening, reading, and bicycling. He was a minister with the Universal Life Church and officiated over several family weddings.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Oak Hill Bible Church, 40 Sacarrappa Rd., Oxford. Burial will be private at a later date at North Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
