Roland Spear

OXFORD – Roland Francis Spear, 70, of Main Street, died Friday, June 17, 2022, in his home after a short battle with cancer.  He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sue E. (Graves) Spear of Oxford; three children, Kenneth Spear of Worcester, Melissa Evans and her husband Jay of North Oxford, and Kelly Moynagh of Worcester; his mother, Daphine Spear of Worcester; three granddaughters, Amber St. Marie of Putnam, CT, and Kayla and McKenna Evans of North Oxford; three sisters, Teresa Fulton of Florida, Jean Spear of Milford, and Penny Litchfield of Milford; a brother, Dana Spear of North Carolina; two aunts, several nieces and nephews; and a close family friend, Becky Hart of Worcester.  He was predeceased by his brother Paul Spear.  He was born in Randolph, VT, son of the late Francis Spear, and was raised in the Hadwen Park section of Worcester.  He graduated from South High School in Worcester in 1970 and attended Worcester Junior College.  He served in the U.S. Air Force for 9 years.

Mr. Spear worked at Digital Equipment Corporation for many years.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, and puttering around the house and yard.  He loved his cats, listening to all kinds of music at home and at concerts, and traveling back to his home state of Vermont.  Most important in his life was his family.

The family would like to thank Care Central VNA Hospice of Webster and Laura’s Angels, for their exceptional care during his illness.

His personality attracted people to him.  He was fun-loving, easy-going, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford.  Burial will be private at North Cemetery.  Calling hours are Saturday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Cat Connection, 289 Thompson Rd., Webster, MA 01570.
