CHARLTON – Rose M. (Newton) Coleman, 87, of No. 6 Schoolhouse Road, died Monday, February 26, 2024, in her home.  She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Benjamin J. Coleman, Sr., who died in 2012.  She is survived by seven children, Benjamin J. Coleman Jr. and his wife Yvonne of Charlton, James Coleman of Charlton, Nancy Arrell and her fiance Norman Lee of Westerly, RI, George Coleman Stonington, CT, Dorothy Paille and her husband Joseph of South Paris, ME, Edwin Coleman and his wife Cheryl of Gales Ferry, CT, and Lori Ryder of South Paris, ME; a brother, Walter Newton Jr. of East Northport, NY; a sister, Viola Nelms of Fort White, FL; fourteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, two great-great grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.  

She was predeceased by five sisters and one brother, June, Phoebe, Eleanor, Jack, Ida, and Dolores.  She was born in Northport, NY, daughter of the late Walter and Nancy (Bennett) Newton, and lived in Pawkatuck, CT, most of her life before moving to Charlton in 2016.

Mrs. Coleman was a homemaker for most of her life.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and crafts.  Most of all, she will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother who was instrumental in helping to raise many of her grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at West Ridge Cemetery in Charlton.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.

Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.
