HYANNIS/OXFORD -- Russell Herbert Carlson, 84, of Hyannis, MA died unexpectedly on April 28, 2014. He was born in Worcester, MA on February 18, 1930, to Emil Walfrid Carlson and Gerda Marie (Lundblad) Carlson. He is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Axel Henry, Alice Marie, Carl Einar, Walter Theodore, Ruth Elizabeth, Edna Louise, and Richard Earl. He was a graduate of South High in Worcester and Worcester PolyTech Institute and held various positions as an Engineer and Sales Manager at Rockwood Sprinkler, Sem-Tec, Inc., retiring from TBV, Inc. After his very short retirement, he became a consultant for Ballco Manufacturing, Inc. Russell is survived by his wife Lorraine A. (Dion) Carlson. He also leaves behind his 14 children: Crystal Carlson of San Francisco, CA; Claudia Carlson Bunn of Oxford; Curt Carlson and his wife Laurie of Worcester; Cindy Hammond and her husband Alan of Oxford; Candace LaRochelle and her husband Raymond of Melbourne, FL; Charlene Nappa and her husband Vincent of Palm Bay, FL; Claudette Tinsley and her husband Gary of Oxford; Cookie Johnson of Oxford; Craig Carlson of Oxford; Carrie Fahle and her husband John of Chatham; Christina Flanagan of Nashua, NH; Christopher Carlson of N. Brookfield; Cassie Maher and her husband John of Cotuit; Chad Carlson and his wife Beverley of Harwich Port. He was "Papa" to his cherished 39 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. Nothing made him happier than to see his family gathered together. He loved traveling, playing golf and watching his favorite sports teams; the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and Boston Celtics. Through social media, he kept in touch with many friends, family and co-workers with Facebook chat and playing on-line games. Lastly, Russell was a most generous, loving and humorous man. He was the moral compass of the family giving everything he could to his loved ones. Beloved Husband, Dad and Grandfather, we will all miss you! Calling hours will be held at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oxford, MA 01540, on Monday, May 5, 2014, from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, Suite 1710, New York, NY 10122, or at www.ocrf.org/donatenow to support ovarian cancer research.
