OXFORD – Sally A. (McCullough) Johnson, 89, of Rocky Hill Road, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, in her home. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald A. Johnson of Oxford; three children, Susan J. Dimmick and her husband Paul of Atlanta, GA, Alan G. Johnson and his wife Cynthia of Webster, and Eric J. Johnson and his wife Jane of Dudley; seven grandchildren, Kristen Veale, Peter Dimmick, Tory Metzler, Michael Johnson, Margaret Dimmick, Katherine Umeh, and Teryn Fasshauer; six great-grandchildren; and a large extended family. She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert McCullough, Samuel McCullough, and John McCullough; and a sister, Margaret Emanuelson Lloyd. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late John and Margaret (Graham) McCullough, and lived in the Quinsigamond Village community of Worcester, before moving to Oxford in 1956. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester in 1951 and later attended secretarial school.
Mrs. Johnson was the executive secretary to the town manager for the Town of Auburn for many years. She cared for her home and family when her children were young. She was the first woman to run for the Board of Selectmen in Oxford, and remained active with community issues throughout her time in Oxford. Mrs. Johnson was a longtime, active member of the Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford, where she also participated in bible study, served on various committees, and was past chairwoman of the Administrative Board of the church. She enjoyed cross-stitch, reading, and vacationing with her family at Little Squam Lake in New Hampshire.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Monday, October 25, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford United Methodist Church, 465 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540, or to the Salvation Army, 72 Cambridge St, Worcester, MA 01603.
