CHARLTON – Shirley J. (Myers) Thomas, 77, of the Overlook, died peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, after multiple courageous battles with cancer.
She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, A. Charles Thomas of West Hurley, NY, who died in 2016. She is survived by two children, Stacy L. Thomas of Worcester, and Ryan C. Thomas and his wife Kim; two grandsons, Logan C. Thomas and Connor S. Thomas, all of Oxford; her sister, Barbara Magee of West Park, NY; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Myers.
She was born in Beacon, NY, daughter of the late Kenneth Myers and Susan Best, and lived most of her life in West Hurley, NY, before moving to Charlton in 2020.
Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker, devoted to caring for her home and family. She worked part-time in customer service at several stores in New York, including ShopRite Supermarket. She enjoyed living at the Overlook and made many friends there, with whom she appreciated traveling, dining, and taking trips to the casino. She loved animals and took great joy in caring for the wildlife around her home. She also enjoyed writing letters to the editor that were published in local newspapers and was a fan of the New York Mets. She was a generous person who donated to many charities throughout her life. Her family meant everything to her, and she loved attending her grandson’s sporting events.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the James C. Nicoll Jr. Chapel at Overlook Masonic Health Center, 88 Masonic Home Rd., Charlton.
Subsequent services will be held in New York, including burial at Montrepose Cemetery in Kingston, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Westfield Homeless Cat Project, 1124 East Mountain Road, Westfield, MA 01085.
Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the local arrangements, and Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home in Kingston, NY, is directing the arrangements in New York.
