NORTH OXFORD – Theresa M. (Stafford) Braney, 94, formerly of Prospect Street, died peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of 61 years Richard F. Braney who died in 2009. She is survived by three children, Richard G. Braney and his wife Barbara, Kevin H. Braney and his wife Anne, and Susan M. Gouin and her husband John; six grandchildren, Jennifer Mesarwi and her husband Amir, Christopher Braney and his wife Debbie, Michael Braney and his wife Carrie, Carolyn Braney, Erin Mitrenko and her husband Alex, and Lauren Gouin; five great-grandchildren, Layla, Nora, and Anisa Mesarwi, and Sydney and Logan Braney; and many nephews and nieces. Terry was predeceased by four sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Kasputis, Rita Merriam, Grace Kasputis, and Anne Hansen; and a brother, John Stafford. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Harry N. and Georgiana V. (King) Stafford, and lived most of her life in North Oxford. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1946.
She worked at various part-time jobs before retiring from Multibank in Auburn in 1993. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and playing bingo. She was known for her lemon meringue pie. Terry was full of life, and jumped off a diving board when she was 91 years old.
Terry enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center in Oxford, especially participating in the weekly bingo games with her lifelong best friend, Ellen Willette. She loved the ocean and every year she would convince Dick to travel to numerous beaches. Terry created many happy memories going on several vacations with her brother John and his wife Conny Stafford.
Terry was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of St. Ann’s Church in North Oxford. She will be remembered as a fun, caring, kind-hearted person who devoted her life to her family, husband, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The holidays were always very special to her and her family. We will all miss this wonderful person with a vibrant smile and very big heart.
Terry’s family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Knollwood Nursing Center that provided compassionate care to her during her stay. They would also like to thank Kelsey from Care Central VNA & Hospice, for giving her the tools for her next journey and helping her family through this difficult time.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023, at St. Ann’s Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford. Those attending are respectfully requested to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private at a later date at North Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Sunday, July 9, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
