OXFORD – William V. O’Brien, Jr., 83, of West Street, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Judith E. (Munroe) O’Brien of Oxford, who passed in 2015. He is survived by three children, Thomas R. O’Brien of Oxford, Michael J. O’Brien and his wife Carol of Thompson, CT, and Kelly A. O’Brien-Hartnett and her husband Daniel Hartnett of Oxford; two grandchildren, Brennan M. O’Brien and Kiera E. O’Brien, both of Thompson, CT; his sister, Susan McCrohon of Holden; and a niece and two nephews, Caryn, Timothy, and William McCrohon.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late William V. and Irene S. (Schofield) O’Brien Sr., and lived there before moving to Oxford in 1970. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam era.

After returning from the Army, Mr. O’Brien worked for The Rendering in Worcester before becoming a tractor-trailer driver for UPS in Shrewsbury for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. During his retirement, he worked at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 170 in Worcester, and a member of the former Knights of Columbus Post 1458 in Auburn.

He enjoyed traveling to Florida with his wife, where they were snowbirds in Hudson for many years. While there, they often frequented Clearwater Beach and Disney. They treasured time there with his aunt and uncle and many of his life-long Army buddies and their wives, who had settled in the same area. The O’Brien home hosted many gatherings for friends and family, the most epic were on Founder’s Day, where many great memories were made by all. He looked forward to meeting at McDonald’s for the weekly Thursday Coffee Group. He was a handy-man and was always willing to help anyone in need. Most of all, he loved his family. His grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy.
