Brendan Kelly

August 25, 1996 — August 1, 2021

Dudley

DUDLEY – Brendan J. Kelly, 24, passed away on August 1, 2021.  He is survived by his father, Raymond L. Kelly, III, of Dudley; his mother, Susan J. (Mitrano) Kelly of Shrewsbury; his brother, Sean R. Kelly of Dudley; his maternal grandparents, Daniel and Jane Mitrano of Hampton, NH; and his best friends Justin, Kyle, and Adam, affectionately known as the Wolfpack.  He was predeceased by a brother, Bryan D. Kelly who died in 2011 of cystic fibrosis; and his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Alice Kelly.  He was born in Framingham on August 25, 1996.

Brendan graduated from Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley in 2014, and received an academic scholarship to Wentworth Institute of Technology where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He was an avid reader and amassed a large library of books. He studied Japanese and Cantonese. He sought insight and values from societies less focused on capitalistic ideals than ours. He was a free spirit who loved travel and discovering other cultures first-hand. He and Kyle backpacked to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Iceland and others.  He enjoyed playing violin, bass guitar, cello and most recently trombone. He was a hard worker with a thirst for research and solving difficult problems. He was a loving soul who adopted a rescue dog he named Daisy (after The Great Gatsby character) and spoiled her to no end. He was a survivor who forged on and worked even harder after the passing of his older brother. He was an example of strength, honesty, love and empathy to all those lucky enough to have been part of his life.

The quote below is taken from one of the books in Brendan’s collection:

“Why did they make birds so delicate and fine as those sea swallows when the ocean can be so cruel?”
― Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea
