AUBURN – Eldon F. Schofield, 94, of Washington Street, died Saturday, March 27, 2021, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester.  He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Ruth M. (Ostergard) Schofield who died in 1998.  He is survived by three children, Gary F. Schofield and his wife Debra of Shrewsbury, Sharon R. Fontecchio and her husband Paul of Townsend, and Wendy L. Clem and her husband Curtis of Oxford; five grandchildren, Kerrie Schofield and her husband John Malvarose of Worcester, Brian Schofield and his wife Kristin of California, Christina Wira and her husband Charles of Madison, CT, Mark Fontecchio and his wife Bea of Stevensville, MI, and Jennifer Laudate and her husband Anthony of Hudson; and nine great-grandchildren, Sienna Schofield, Luke Schofield, Gabriella Wira, Charles Wira, Matthew Fontecchio, Rachael Fontecchio, Brooke Laudate, Makayla Laudate, and Cali Laudate.  He was predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Clem who died in 2001; two brothers, Bernard Schofield and Waldo Schofield; and a sister, Maxine Anderson.  He was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, son of the late Raymond and Hilda (Hatt) Schofield, and lived most of his life in Leicester before moving to Auburn four years ago.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Schofield worked at Wyman-Gordon Company for 25 years, retiring in 1989.  Previously he worked for Brown Shoe Company in Worcester.  He was a sports fan who enjoyed all sports and NASCAR racing.  He loved all the Boston sports teams and enjoyed trips to Foxwoods.

It’s impossible to express how deep our gratitude is for the level of care he received as a resident of Eddy Pond.  He himself held them in the highest regard.  There is not enough room here to fully thank each and every person involved in his care.  It was home to him and his family.

The family would like to also thank Jewish Healthcare for their years of skilled nursing care and helping him to maintain his health and well-being; Care One in Millbury for their kind and competent care enabling him to return to his home at Eddy Pond, which was his very important goal; and UMass Memorial – University Campus Emergency Department and East-6, for their kind and compassionate care to help him on his journey to heaven.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford.  Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.  Calling hours are Monday, March 29, 2021, from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Vets Memorial Program, P.O.
